We offer facilities for tents, small - medium tent trailers and small pickup campers.
We cannot accommodate motor homes, travel trailers, large tent trailers, or hybrid expandable travel trailers.
The Kelp Shed, located at the entrance to the camping area, is the general service center for Hermit Island. Campers register here and drop in for a friendly cup of coffee, indoor games, small boat rentals, Yankee Nature and Sunset Cruises and countless other heterogeneous services. Located opposite the Kelp Shed is the campground grocery store where ice, Coleman fuel, firewood, live lobsters, clams, and bait may be purchased.
Pay telephones are located outside the Kelp Shed. Drinking water is piped throughout the camping area. Warm showers, dry and flush toilets are conveniently located. A picnic table and a loose-rock fireplace are provided on each site.
Two adults, accompanying children and one car are allowed per campsite or four adults, no children and one car per campsite. No space available for additional vehicles anywhere on Hermit Island. Visitors are not allowed into the campground.
Reservations for a week or longer, and for the 3-day non-refundable Memorial and Labor Day weekends are accepted the first business day in January, by mail only, with full payment within 30 days. (Feb 1st mail & telephone.) Reservations for less than a week are accepted starting the first business day in March with full payment within 30 days. After June 1st, full payment is required within 2 weeks from the date the reservation was made.
We will refund all but one day of your payment (equal to one nights administrative fee)if you cancel at least 72 hours before scheduled check in. No refunds for holiday weekends. Refunds cannot be given because of early departures, wet sleeping bags, soggy pillows, dampened spirits, or disasters beyond our control.
Check in is after 2 p.m. Check out is before 10 a.m.
